The role of the 16th Regiment RAA is to provide force protection for land forces against air and surface-to-surface fires, a sense, warn, and locate function and command and control of Joint Air Land Integration. The Regiment consists: - 110th Air Defence Battery, responsible for defending land forces from enemy air attack using missile and radar systems; - 111th Sense, Warn, Locate Battery, responsible for detecting and warning land forces of incoming artillery attack, as well as locating the point of origin of those attacks using radar; - 1st AGO Battery, responsible for the coordination and allocation of friendly air assets in support of the land force in the joint war fighting environment; and - Combat Service Support (CSS) Battery, responsible for the sustainment and maintenance of the Regiment both in the barracks and field environment (includes cooks, vehicle mechanics, technical electricians). The work experience program will provide participants with broad insight into the wide range of Army disciplines, duties and career options. Students will be involved in demonstrations, presentations and practical activities hosted by 16 ALR’s Battery’s. Activities may include physical training sessions, overwater obstacle course, Army navigation activities, visiting the Weapons Training Simulation System and other Army simulators and receiving demonstrations of weapons, vehicles and equipment. Students will have the opportunity to speak with Army personnel from a range of areas to gain information about their roles, careers and experiences in Defence.
