SYP - Building Maintenance Technician - Aug 2023 [Switzerland]

Role Purpose:

The postholder to have knowledge of dealing with commercial/industrial/ public sector buildings, plant, and equipment. A working understanding of Health and Safety working processes and procedures.

To provide all round awareness across the estate, noting, fixing, and reporting all items or matters which require resolution, to ensure property assets are managed in a way which supports the effective delivery of policing in South Yorkshire.

The key focus of this role is customer service as well as the smooth operation of SYP assets, and ensuring we provide a professional service at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Building Engineering and Management team in the maintenance of properties, plant and equipment and provide cover for the Assistant Building Engineer duties when required.
  • Undertake regular maintenance of drainage systems and associated equipment including clearance of blockages, internally and externally.
  • Undertake boiler cleans and 'ashing' out of commercial solid fuel boilers on pre-determined frequency including flue ways and chambers, as directed.
  • To assist in the compilation and maintenance of any required records such as mandatory H&S checks and tests; goods deliveries; utility meter readings and coal/oil/wood pellet deliveries (including ordering supplies through district staff when required).
  • Receive deliveries of petrol and diesel as per the Petroleum Regulations and maintain relevant records associated with petrol deliveries and dips (as required).
  • Assisting SYP in complying with H&S responsibilities for Management of Contractors on site.
  • General BMT duties as directed such as:
  • Documented weekly ‘walk-checks’ of the buildings, notifying the Estates and Facilities Helpdesk of any required works, maintenance and cleaning of light fittings, check deliveries of goods, canteen deliveries and stores and transfer to appropriate section/storage area in accordance with agreed procedures, ordering of building users cleaning materials. Installing notice, Nobo type board/air wave /CS gas lockers and associated equipment.
  • Undertake/assist in cleaning of buildings, litter pick and sweep service yards, parking areas, entrances, external waste receptacles etc. Disposal of confidential/wastepaper & canteen waste.
  • Undertake office furniture removals.
  • Update and manage work through Technology Forge, ensuring work is uploaded, progressed and closed down as needed. Liaise with Estates and Facilities Helpdesk team to ensure service is cohesively managed.
  • Be conscious of the security of buildings at all times, ensuring that all required access points are secured as necessary.
  • Undertake work outlined above on other buildings within the SYP area.
  • The post-holder will work 37 hours per week covering the core hours 8am –5pm and maybe required to work weekends, overtime, public holidays, or outside normal working hours if circumstances require.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities which do not change the character and purpose of the post as may be required.

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. Field: This applies to roles that do have a base, however, due to the nature of their duties is required to travel to other locations. Due to the nature of these roles, they cannot accommodate flexible working from home on a permanent basis.

Hybrid: Applicable when the work can be undertaken at any location, whether that be a SYP building or from home.
